They're expensive.
I know!! But my router is also expensive. And I cannot afford buying a new one each time a blackout short-circuit it (or any other part of the machine)
But good:rolleyes:Quote:

What good is a UPS for a router if all of the computers connected to it don't have power?
It only protects the server (the computer that it's connected to) not other computers:rolleyes:Quote:

He must be talking about surge protectors.
There is no way just cutting the power permanently damaged
your hardware. I mean, how do you turn it off?
I believe a good UPS will act as both a surge protector and a
backup battery (at least temporarily).
But if your building gets hit by lightining, all bets are off.
My girlfriend's two computers were fried when lightning stuck her house. Also blew out two phones and a microwave.Quote:

Anything I can get her to protect from that? ;)
Hobo,
The only sure fire-protection would be to live in a cave.
Make sure you install a lightining rod somewhere overtop the entrance.
You should generate your own electricy via a generator.
Internet should be done by satelite connection, and all food
should be killed and gathered by your own hand.
or,
make all your clothes out of tinfoil.
Already got that one covered, partner! ;)Quote:

One of those power thingys that turn on when there is a blackout so you can shutdown your comp safely without lossing data.
Hobo,
Like your user status:)
Another important aspect is to stabilize the output voltage. A peak of voltage could also turn your machine into a piece of garbage.... :(
Don't want to accidently fry your computer :(Quote:
