execute method of Command object failed

hi all,

i dont know why this happens.:(
i have the access database and i am accessing some fields of a table through ADODB.Command object.
VB Code:
cmd.commandtext="select * from names"
set rs=cmd.execute
but its giving run time error as "execute method of command object failed.."
do u know why this is so?
command object type,etc. all are correct.
please help
