999999 = 26/11/4637 'if the year 4637 isn't big enough we"ll look for another datatype

The first declares a string of variable length and the second declares it as fixed length (9 chars).
12.) What two values can a bouleon value contain.
True & False
13.) What are the valid ranges for a date datatype
January 1, 100 to December 31, 9999
14.) Whats the operator system for exponentiation

The forward slash is a standard division operator and the backslash divides but ignores any remainder.

The MOD operator returns the remainder of a division operation.

simonm, while your heart was in the right spot to help... it's kindof an unspoken policy to not diretly help w/ homework assignments. For all we know this might have been a take home test or a quizz of some sort.
Very few people actually learn from jsut copying the answers. I once heard a quote that went along the lines of: "A good programmer knows the language from memory. But, the best programmers know how and when to look things up."
I find this to be generally true, and wish more teachers would teach this way. But they are so stuck in the "Here, memorize this use less info, and we'll quizz you later on it." But to the best of my knowledge does any one teach how to look things up.

Well, that explains why I had never heard of it then...

I know..... it's just sort of something that gets mentioned from time to time (usually at times like this.)
No biggie really..... it can lead to bad habits... like know ing something w/o really know why or how.

Oddly, had the questions been re-phased and asked in a different way (paragraph instead of 8)... 9).... etc) people would have been tripping over themselves to help......

Geez these homework people. Can't they at least come up with a creative way to ask their questions so it's not so BLATANTLY OBVIOUS that they're just being lazy and taking the easy way out?? Can you give us the name of your textbook so that we can all follow along?? Man, what I wouldn't give to have had a COBOL forum while I was in school...:D

I guess the idea of having programming questions for homework is alien to me because, when I was at school, I never got to touch a computer. We had about 10 PC's that were generally locked away, only to be wheeled out on open days...:rolleyes:

No kidding..... I had to "learn" COBOL as part of my training for the AirForce..... out of a class of 22.... 20 of us "failed" it.....

I dont mind answering a home work question or 2. But I especially get urked when people ask us to give them source code for a calculator for their final project.

My problem in school was basically that me and homework didn't get along so well. Mr Homework and Mr Go To Class were always fighting for my time. Unfortunately neither one could match the money that Mr Full Time Job was giving me. We had the same situation at my school regarding COBOL. Funny thing is, one of the guys from the class is now writing COBOL at a bank. Tell me school isn't a complete waste of time....aside from the social factor.
