Next time, don't cross-post. I have a reference for AVIFile but there is no MPEG style interface like this. AVIFile will allow you to do everything you want with AVIs!

well... i'm only making supositions here (please correct me if i'm wrong) but if you use the MCI api's to play your movie maybe it is possible. You see, i've used the mci a while ago to make a quick mp3 player for fun and as I was browsing trough the info at MSDN, It looked like you had to pass an Handle to a window when opening a video file. So, if the window you pass the handle off is the window that will be used for the playback of your movie (and I don't see why it wouldn't be) you could probably get the dc of the window and then use a function like bitblt to copy the content of the dc to another an then do what you want with it, like saving the image to disk.
