The only difference I can tell is that flat "panel" is much narrower. Is flat "screen" also LCD? If not, why is flat "screen" any better than a regular CRT monitor? I am confused.

flat screen produces no glare, thus getting a very clear picture.
LSD also creates no glare, but is worse for games, because you get this blur effect, similiar to labtop monitors.
flat screen just refers to the glass at the front of the CRT monitor...
I'ts flat, not slightly curved as "older" types are.
Supposedly better picture. I think most monitors these days are flat.
flat panel is the entire monitor is much narrower than a CRT screen.
LCD stuff is good for most things, but technology for games is still
lagging a bit. Fast frame displays are not what the CRTs can provide.
Although they are making progress.

LCD is better for coding, IMHO. Text is nice and crisp and there's less eyestrain after staring at it for hours on end. (I personally can't sit in front of a CRT at less than 85Hz for too long...)
My monitor is 60 Hz at 1024x768, on a 15" monitor.
:p
60?!!!!!!!!!!!! I start crying at 60hz, mine is set at 100 :DQuote:

how can you stand 60hz?!!!
umm, lcd's have a lower refresh rate in general, right?
I have 20/20 vision.
I guess.
no, not because of that...I mean a 60Hz monitor flickers so much. Now that I'm used to 80-100 hz refresh rates, a 65hz refresh rate really really annoys me
Yes, but it doesn't work like a CRT with the flicker - mine at work runs at 60Hz, which is the native refresh of the LCD.Quote:

Go to ebay. I picked up an Envision 17" flat panel monitor for around $350 :)
You can probably even get one for about $200 now.
I'm really happy with the quality. Text, coding etc looks really sharp. Although, games really suck.

btw why are LCD's bad for gaming? because of refresh rate?!
I think so Mr P.
Mine seems to suffer a little. I think it is also to do with the response rates.
Can somebody advise on this?
For some more info. take a look at this thread:

Chris.
how do you adjust the refresh rate?
Go to Settings... and advanced... and monitor...
