When using the input type=file is it possible to put some
default value into the text part of that element?
Also when mulitple items are chosen in a select they are
highlighted in dark blue is it possible to change this colour?
And if not a reason would be nice.

You can set the value attribute on on the input element, although I think many browsers don't allow it for security reasons.
I would have thought you could use a CSS pseudo-class like active and the background property to acheive what you wanted with the select thing, but I can't seem to get it to work in any browser.
Cheers Rick, I pretty much suspected that both of these
were going to be no gos.
They were just part of a wish list and not particularly important.
I consdered it a pretty safe bet that someone else would have
tried the same thing (with more time to research) and come up
with a definitive yes/no
That's the benifit of not-having a job ;) I definately would have though that you could change the selected option colour, at least in mozilla, but maybe not.
Another benefit is you don't have somone saying:
"I think I'd prefer that in a cloudless summer sky light blue colour"
And your thinking:
It's only a bloody combo box it's the same colour everywhere you go 'cept Java Swing.
While saying:
hmm, yes I'll look into that.
