Your Processor...

Hi all,

It would be really helpful if you could either:

• Download the following tool: http://www.btinternet.com/~j.d.williamson/detect.exe - it will pop up a message box with your unique processor code
• Drill down to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Hardware\Description\System\CentralProcessor\0 and the key is Identifier

Then reply to the thread with the processor code and your processor.

The codes I already have are:

Standard AMD Athlon: x86 Family 6 Model 4 Stepping 2
Intel Pentium 4: x86 Family 15 Model 1 Stepping 2

Just go a right click on "My Computer", and go to properties. Its right there on the first page.

I think that My Computer -> Properties thing is only in Win98 and possibly Me/2000 cos in XP it shows the proper chip.

Yeah, but why is he asking for so much info? People can just say P4 1g, but he wants all this other info.

x86 Family 6 Model 6 Stepping 5 - Celeron Mendocino.

I want the info cos I'm making an application, and part of it needs to identify the processor. I can get the family, model and stepping info from the registry and just needed to identify which family/model/stepping combinations are for which processor.

Also thanks for specifying that it is Athlon XP cos now I can add it to the db as an "Athlon XP" instead of plain old "Athlon" :)

Okay, now all I need are the details for the AMD Athlon 4 and AMD Athlon MP.

Mine is a 533.. the newer cellys (over 800 mhz) have new cores and larger L2 caches.

The 'celeron 2'

SSE makes a big difference.

As does the cache.
