I have Windows XP Home Edition. Does anyone know how I can get the Java VM? Apparently Sun sued Microsoft so I can't download it.
java sued microsoft from making there own version of a JVM that did not follow java standards, you can still get a real jvm off of the sun site at http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html if you want the SDK (Standard Developers Kit) to write your own java apps go to: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/download.html here you can also find the API there too. if you want an IDE check out www.jcreator.com or www.netbeans.org if you want a powerful IDE... but its written in java so u'll need a decent box to run it , and stay away from jBuilder (read my signature :D )
and while you're at it learn Intercal (or its platform independent flavour: jIntercal)! ;)
who doesnt have a decent box now days?? :)
every highschool in the maritimes... ;)
add all of Ontario to that list too... <sigh>
but now i'm at UWO so it's all good! ha ha 5uXorZ!
I got a 1.4 G AMD with 768 mb of ddr memory and I am thinking of upgrading already.
Hey CP, im at UNB now, and they have pretty good dells (microsoft donated like 3 mil to the school a year or two ago)
right on Kagey, u first year?
yeah, my first year. I'm taking BScCS, and i already got credits for 2 chemistry courses from the college board ap exams. I got a 4 on the calculus one too, but i'm taking it again so i dont get rusty.
what year are you in?
1st year, in want to go into the Computer Science\Philosophy program
skip the philosophy, wont get you much outside school.
1) philosophy gives you a better understanding of life
2) develops rational thinking
3) philosophy is EVERYWHERE: even object oriented programming is a philosophy
4) philosophy is one of then greatest accomplishments in human history and thus in and ENDS in itself and thus does not need to be a means
5) philosophy can replace religion, thus no need for silly old jesus and other hocus pocus
6) everyone w/ a PhD has some form of philosophy
7) i might want to be a philosophy professoer
