I just bought an Optical Mouse. It are the ****.
even better when wireless
Are they good nowadays? After using the Optical Mice on Sun Workstations about seven years ago I swore to never touch one again - those were terrible.
Are you kidding?Quote:

It never sticks because it never has to be cleaned because it doesn't even have a ball which makes it so it doesn't even need a mouse pad. What could be better.
Wireless mouse? No thanks. I'd have to buy them in bulk because I'd keep loosing them. :)
Well, the technology must have improved a lot. The ones I used required a silver metallic gridded mousepad to reflect the lazer back. If the mousepad wasn't perfectly flat and spotlessly clean, the mouse was erratic as heck and at some points unuseable.
I got one with the ball on top about a year ago and after a brief spell of awkwardness it's the best thing since toilet paper. Never gets dirty because it doesn't touch the mouse pad and the only thing you have to move is your finger. Plus it's awesome for playing UT.
or the upcoming UT2003. I just read an article on it last night about the weapons and game play. :droolQuote:

Sounds awesome.
I didn't really dig the ball on top. I kept moving the mouse on accident. Plus it broke fast, which left a bad taste in my mouth. And I'm pretty sure the ball can still get dirty from dust and other particles (diry hands) using it, but it's probably less frequent.
Either way, ball mice (with the ball on the bottom) are definitely out. And the laser's fun to play with. Wee!!
I cant stand trackball mice. You get a whole lot more control with a regular mouse.
My optical mouse wont work on a glass surface (the laser goes all crazy), so I have to use a pad anyway.
Z.
hmm...I never thought about a glass surface. I guess it wouldn't quite work out, would it? But with my good ol' warped wood desk, it's great.Quote:

Also, since when did mouse pads become a fashion statement. When I buy a mouse pad, I buy plain colored ones that have the company name in size 14 font in the corner for like $3. My mom, on the other hand, always buys these $20 ones with cartoon characters or fancy little hooplah. It's crazy.
have the mice with the balls on top gotten better? I remember my dads old laptop had one that always got stuck because of the grease from your hands. The definately look cool though  must take some getting used to.
As with most things you get what you pay for, I spent $30 on the Microsoft Intellipoint and have had absolutely no problem with it. I have used some where the ball is real stiff and the buttons are in a weird(er) position. There is definitely a learning curve, took me about a week to get used to it, mainly because the buttons are on the side, but once I was past that it kicks ass.Quote:

Watch out for mice like these, http://www.colorcase.com/btcwiropmous.html, I bought two, batteries inculded, and they both leaked, ruining two perfectly good mousemats
Just on a (slightly) unrelated note, I saw this at the site:

If you need good speakers, get those. Just telling ya :)
I was using an Optical Mouse for a while but a change back to a normal mouse. The Optical Mouse wasn't working very well on my desk surface.
