I'm just curious. I'm old, so I have about 600 double-sided tapes I made and about 400 CD's. I only have about 75 mp3's since all my stuff is stored.
I'm guessing at least of a few of you folks are in the high thousands.

about 1200... all but a hand full ripped from my CD collection which is also about 400 or so CD's :)
We have more than 1052 I but don't know the exact number:)
I have 42gigs + 18 cds of mp3s :)
I have 'bout 12 hrs.
I didn't even know what an MP3 was until I got out of the service. By that time I had already decided to put my CD's in storage with the rest of my stuff since I didn't think I'd be able to play them anyway.Quote:

You want to know what really makes it suck? I happened to have a beach boys cd in my laptop when I brought it with me. So I have one cd right now and it's the beach boys. I mean I like them in a retro sort of way, but I have a couple "daily listening" cd's that could have been in the laptop instead. Unfortunately, God hates me so this is the kind of bad luck I always have. :(
Dang :(
Can you get the box from storage?
or you could bend your morals a little and borrow some from me;) or someone else... just whilst yours are in storage of course hehe :D
I doubt you listen to what I'm looking for. That's why I started using KaZaa back then. I have enough to keep me going, it just sounds like crap on a laptop and keeps me from being able to concentrate, so I don't listen to them anyway.
Thanks though. Hopefully I find a job soon and can get all my stuff. They won't let me take it piece meal and storage is up in August anyway. When that time comes I'm really screwed.
fair enough :)
what sort of music do you like?
Acid rock mostly. I like things with long instrumentals that I can feel through my bones.Quote:

I don't mean heavy metal or thrash. I'm sure you know the difference, DF, but for those who confuse them.
I like Blue Oyster Cult, Pink Floyd (Animals, some of DSOTM, Mettle, many others), Neil Young - especially right after he split from CSN & Y, Kitaro - especially Gaia Onbashira, George Winston, any good acidy blues (G3, Stevie Ray Vaughn, etc.)
Gaia Onbashira is a mind-blower. If you've never heard it, you really need to. That's the name of the album. Kitaro is the artist. You have to hear it in its entirety though. If you get individual MP3's then the overall effect will be lost.
I've always really liked the Cars too. I don't know why since I usually don't like radio music. But there's something about the music that I really like. Candy-O is my favorite of their albums.
I used to really like Rush and I have all their albums up to when I heard they broke up. I don't follow groups that closely, so I don't know if they did or not. I heard there were a bunch of deaths in their families though. Anyway, I still have my Rush festivals every once in a while (put 5 cd's in my changer and leave them for a week or two), but I don't listen to them much any more.
And I can listen to Mark Knopfler pick all day long. I love the way he plays. I wish he'd play more instrumentals though because I like his guitar, but not much of his music, if that makes sense. That's how I feel about Hendrix too. Awesome guitarist who made me cringe a lot. With hendrix it was the guitar that I loved and hated. With Knopfler, I always love the guitar, but a lot of the lyrics need to be ditched.
Oh ****. I almost forgot U2. I bought their two newest albums and hated them. But everything before that I loved. I can put 5 U2 albums in and leave them for months. Then I take them out, listen to something else and back goes U2. I wonder what that's about?
OK... you were probably looking for a 2 word answer. That was my 2 word answer. :)
Think I know the sort of thing you are into;) Jethro has a lot of those guys... Have to admit it is not really my thing.. but I do like Mark Knopfler, Pink Floyd and U2... and I agree with you about the Mark Knopfler instrumentals... Going Home from the movie Local Hero is one of my fav instrumentals.
Anyway.. if you ever feel the need to get any of them in the interim.. let me or Jethro know :)
I will do that. Thanks. :)Quote:

Clearly we'll have to intro you to Midnight Oil, INXS, Split Enz, and other downunder groups......
I think we have like every Triple J album ripped ... (compilation of hotest alternative music each year)....
All these and more:)
Well, I can get such a long list too if I made it like that. :)Quote:

The list just looks crap because I printed it with one of my first ever programs.Quote:

I have about 1705 (no, exactly 1705 actually :p) in 9.95GB.
About 3/4 are ripped off CDs, the rest were downloaded.
That's the other thing that kept me from seriously considering MP3s. They take a lot of disk space. One particular album I have is almost 150 MB. I used to have the same album on vinyl. :)
Anyway, I don't have a lot of room on my laptop and I really don't want to put them on CD's. That kind of defeats the purpose for me.
mp3s take up space pah:p you could rip them into wma instead ;)
buy new harddrives :)
Although it beats storing them as WAV :D
I have about 14gb free on what was a new 80gb disk only a month or so ago
I have a laptop with an 18 GB HD and about half of that is used by my core programs - not counting my own projects. So I have trouble keeping enough disk space free so disk read/writes are fast.Quote:

I think I've got around 600 MP3s. 50 of which are theme songs, but almost all of them are downloaded, since if I have the CD I might as well play it rather than take up more space on the HDD! I suppose it's convenient not having to put the CD in every time you want to listen to it, but I've got a small HDD, so I need to save space, and Medal of Honour isn't helping!
My super new machine Jethro is getting me next month has duel 120 GB HDD's... so I am looking forward to being able to rip the rest of my CD collection
And it is much more convienient to have them on your HDD if you have the room :) It is great to have random access to even 1200.. the 6000 or so I will have after I have ripped them all will be great :D
And will you add all this to your DC share? :D
Has anyone tried MP3's on a surround system? I can't see any reason why they would be different from CD's in that regard since CD's are strictly stereo, so all the surround data is decided by the amp.

Would I deny you the pleasure of rummaging around in my bits and bobs Mike;)
I've got 5.1, and it's still only stereo, unless you specify a 'sound source' location, which calculates the fade and balance to sound like it's coming from that location. It's not all that great.
Nope ;)Quote:

We are planning to run a cable from the PC to the Stereo.. it should be amazing for parties.. non stop music for ever :D
Now that's more like it :D:D:DQuote:

Lucky it's your birthday;) :D
It's awesome for games. I promise you'll like it. Make sure you put in a good shooter and maybe a spooky game and turn down the lights when you're playing. If you're really into it and something sneaks up on you, you'll jump out of your chair. I love playing the games through my stereo.Quote:

With shooters you can rock the walls. :)
Cafeen - I nearly blew out some speakers playing Unreal with surround :D
Moved the PC into the lounge and took my amp with me...took a bit of tweaking to get the front/rear balance right with the pair, but was well worth it.
Oh, and for anyone that's seen Armageddon, that bit at the beginning with the meteorites is cool on DVD surround ;)
Yeah.. you have to take good care of your speakers. Even if they don't blow, if they're overloaded, they get weakened and lose all the sound quality you paid for.
Luckily I was using my older speakers rather than dad's nice Kef Q35s :)
Hehehe :D
Our place is too spread out to have the TV and Stereo and Computer all together.. but we can cable to the stereo.. so sound will be awesome anyway... the stereo we have .. has never been over about 1/3 volume.. it is actually painful any higher :D I think our eardrums would blow before the speakers!
If your stereo can take a digital input, try and run that rather than the audio signal, it'll save it acting as an antenna and crackling every time your fridge starts up (you know what I mean).
It has coaxial inputs I think??? is that what you mean? Not really up on all of this stuff ;) Just know it is a big Denon.. and it sounds great :D
