i went to this site http://www.directx4vb.com/ and just look around. Under the DirectX 7 it has direct draw, music, sound, etc...
and DirectX 8 it has DX graphics, audio, etc..
my question is: what is the diff. between DX 7 and 8? Can i use Direct Draw in DX 8.1?

a game programmed for DDraw7 or any other version will run under Dx8 and any newer version of DX...
About programming DDraw in DX8 you can't. D3D and DDraw became direct Graphics... You still can do 2d only games with DX8, but you will have to define polygons for your 2d graphics... it gives you a little more flexibility, but if all you want to do is program a 2d only game I would propose to do it in Dx7 since in my opinion it saves time and it is easier
