School Hardware Project

Ok....

Well at school in Info Tech, were studying hardware. Anyway, we get to choose the device that we want to study... so I asked to do Bluetooth, so I cuold learn some stuff about it.....

Anyway, he says if I want to do that, I have to Connectivity... which means every form of cable used by computers I'm guessing.

And, no, I'm not asking your guys to do it for me, but I have a list below of Devices that use Cables/Infra Red/Wireless that I know of and I was kinda hoping you guys would add some more to my list for me, and point me in the direction of good info on them.

Networking Cards (Wireless + Cable)

PS/2

Am I missing anything else?

"PS 2, but not PS 1"... Are you trying to be funny? Whatabout PSX? PS/2 is the only connection. It was designed by IBM and is used for Mice and now keyboards. I believe it was first used in the IBM PS/2 Valuepoint PC(using an i80486DX-33), But I may be wrong.

Devices that use cables... Hmmm... There's the old bus mice that require a special card - my cousin's 286 needed one, but the hard disk's spindle got warped and the drive failed to spin-up. Tsk tsk tsk, a 40MByte Hard disk - finished.

"Scuzzy" is the correct pronounciation of SCSI (Ever watch Reboot? lol! It's Hex's cat or dog type thing...). There is a brand new hard disk technology called "Fibre Channel", capable of 100's of MBytes/sec(Maybe Seagate.com can help?). VERY Expensive stuff... IDE connects Hard disks... Look for the ATAPI Specification documents. A monitor requires a type of cable, correct? There are professional-type monitors for workstations that have a cable of like 30 wires instead of the usual 15 for VGA. There is a new external soundcard out (By Creative Labs?) as well.

You wanted to find information on Bluetooth devices... A DSL or Cable modem is a Bluetooth technology device, correct? Look on http:\\www.national.com (National Semiconductor - NSC) for some information on bluetooth compatible chips, if you wish.

You're missing optical cables (aka. S/PDIF) developed by Sony and Philips. Those are pretty standard on the more expensive sound cards now.

normal audio jacks (3.5mm ones)
old-fashioned phono jacks (the round ones with a bit in the middle, kinda like TV jacks)
TV-Jacks (if you have a WinTV card)
VGA
DVI
VIVO
TV-Out (same as phono jacks really)
USB 2 (same as USB 1 and 1.1 but faster)

That's all I think you've missed.

could speakers count? plug it into the sound card? if they do then joysticks and gamepads too.

There is a precursor to PS/2. It didn't just hope straight to ps/2. According to a website it is called DIN5 however i always just called it PS1 because of its strong resemblance to PS2

Ahh yes... I remember now... My old 486 has that for Keyboard... They don't use that ancient stuff now. 5-pin DIN Keyboard connection... add that to your list - on 486 hardware or older :)
