D programming language?

Seems like it has potential, covering a lot of the "problem" areas of C/C++. What are your thoughts?

it seems there are some advantages to it over C++ however i really don't think that it will catch on. Just like i don't believe C# should be touted by MS as the replacement for C++. The C++ language was not developed by one company, this is evident from the fact that there are many many compilers for C++. C# is like VB one compiler for it was developed by one company, one company controls the language definition. The successor to C++ shouldn't be developed by one company even if that company is heavy into linux. the successor to C++ should be developed by the larger linux community. That will ensure that an incredable amount of knowledge from many aspects of the feild of computers goes into making it.

I think the next logical step up in programming software should be
the B- language....

There was a B language at one time - stood for Bell Labs or whoever invented it.

And I think VB, Java, Perl, etc. are already decent successors to C++, IMHO.

It looks like non-portable Java with access to pointers.

In fact, I read that page months ago (perhaps over a year) and I still don't see it catching on.

looks very much like some kind of combination of C++ and Java.
And since I don't like Java, I don't think I like it. :)

I'm more interested in Stroustrup's ideas for the future evolution of C++. I read something a while ago about some talk he gave on it.
