Moray and PovRay.
The college near me does night courses in modelling. I've thought about going, but I'd be worried about all those sleazy photographers. One never knows what one is getting oneself in for!
Good combination :)Quote:

And the benefit is that if you have access to a heavyweight unix server you can run povray on that (cunningly enough, it comes on the SGI freeware CD that we get ).
3d Studio max has free version out called GMax. It is for 3d video games(maps and characters) and you can only render to a specific games format, but its got all the power of the full 3d studio($2000) and would be good for learning. In fact you could probably create models with 3d studio GMax which is by far the easiest to use, and use blender to render as I THINK you can import 3ds models to blender.
A really easy one to use that I like is Ulead Cool3D... Honestly easiest 3D modeling tool around.

yeah but i Wouldnt call that 3d modeling. Ulead is pretty much just a text rendering package.
in that case.. i say Lightwave! :) I was really a big Amiga fan for years :cool:Quote:

Pity it costs more than I earn in a month
are we forgeting THE best?
Maya?
I dont like Maya all that much. I expected a better interface for something that costs nearly $9,000.

SIXTEEN THOU...*cough* *splutter* *choke*
You're telling me that people pay 21 times the cost of my entire computer for a single software package?
The expression, as is frequently used by the students where I work, is "f00king knobs"
well you can bet that no one here actually paid for Maya, but you should realize that Maya is used by big time movie productions that have multi million dollar budgets so 16,000 is nothin to them.
