Windows 2000 logon problem

I just reinstalled 2K adv server to make it a bit leaner (and sort out some of the drivel that active directory left :D)...all was fine.

Added an extra user for my normal account, leaving me with Mike and Administrator.

I installed the VIA service pack (4.28a), and now I can't log on :confused: It accepts the username and password, but gets to "Loading your settings..." (or similar), but jumps straight to "Saving your settings...", and drops me back to the "Hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete to enter your password" screen.

Does this for both, but I can log on perfectly well in Safe Mode. What's more, I can occasionally log on as Mike, but virtually nothing works; the Add/Remove Programs control panel shows the broken image pictures all over it :p


Anyone got any ideas?

Can you uninstall the VIAs in safe mode?

...I decided to uninstall them again. Works perfectly now, so must have been it...was just about to post again here to say it works :D

Well, thanks anyway....strange that they worked before. Might try and just get the AGP driver in though, I want that :D

Go for the VIA 4.37s if you can find em...

Got those already on the system, tried doing just the AGP but it's doing very strange things (got a load of eventlog entries about too many threads in the system and things can't create any more).

Just rebooting into safe mode, will stick 4.37 on :)

No luck, will just ignore them and use the standard drivers.

I went through in safe mode and just changed all the driver entries for anything starting with VIA to the standard ones.

OK :) run 3DMark again...scores should be lower than if you run with VIAs :(

It's bizarre, they worked absolutely fine before (PS: I got 7008 without the VIA drivers when I first reinstalled this).

Just removed all the via hardware entries, and deleted viamach.[ip]nf from c:\winnt\inf which might help me get the original drivers back.
