Why is there a scroll lock key? I remember someone mentioning something about an archaeic database program having used it. Any truth in that?
Because 1 more key on the keyboard means that companies can charge an extra 1p.
In DOS, the window scrolled, and once items scrolled up out of view they were gone forever. Crtl-S and Crtl-Q were the standard way to stop early terminals(VTxx) from scrolling. People telnetting to unix boxes or using telnet in general still experience this. I do every day.
The button was put there because it was a neat feature in 1982.
(You didn't have to use two hands to stop the screen).

i just tried it and it doesnt work, can you not do it in the win2k cmd? i made if full screen to make it more like normal dos
