Word crashed halfway though creating my latest Technical Design document.
I now can't open the doc because word thinks it it still in use by someone else - even though that someone else is me.
How can I regain access to it?

My first suggestion would be to just C&P the file on the desktop. Try accessing the copy.
I can do that OK but I need to maintain the original filename/location because other people have access to it.
It's on a file server so a reboot is not an option.
I just wondered if there was some mystical Word feature to regain control of it.
I expect it wlll sort itself out eventually...
for the time being I'll just have to work on the copy.
:(
Thanks
You could go into the server managment console and kill the process that the machine still thinks is in use.
Once you've successfully made the copy, remove/rename the old one, and replace it?
Is it word 2000? Wd2K usually lets you access a read only version of the document, if you can do that, sopy and paste everything to a new document.Quote:
