I already have a router. How can I add wireless capability to it, or is it more cost-efficient to just get a new router with wireless built in? Also, do you know where I can get dirt-cheap but still working wireless PC cards for a laptop?

Plug a wireless switch into it.
So is this what I want? http://shop3.outpost.com/product/3014589/
that will work, but it will broadcast for up to like 128 users or more. Are you just using this for a home network? I have a Cisco wireless card in a desktop and a Cisco wireless card in a laptop and they communicate without a access point, they broadcast to each other (i forget right now what the protocol is called - adhoc or something). It may be cheaper to go this way - it all depends on how many nodes you are going to have.
I've already got a home network, but I want to share the Internet connection too.
do you want to share it with a rack of people or just a laptop. I assume your router is splitting you internet connection across desktops that are connected with cables. If you put a wireless card in one of the desktops, you can use internet connection sharing with the roaming laptop. However, if you dont have any wireless equiptment yet, it may even out to buy the access point and laptop card (you wont need to buy a desktop card.)
What I've got right now is a wired only router plugged into three desktops. I don't intend to put any of the desktops on the wireless network. All I plan to put on there is my laptop.
Did you go for the Toshiba in the end?
I don't have it yet but so far it looks like the Tosh will be the one :)
cool :)
I would just get an access point and a PC card for the laptop in that case. your not going to pay much more for the access point ($100 for the SMC is not a bad price) than a desktop card.Quote:
