Now that its spring and the temp in my room is warmer. My CPU temp is 47C. I think my fan is a POS. How hard would it be to remove the old on and put a new one on? And could you recommend one?

I knew the day would come :)
The problem is that you probably have a cooler that is all-aluminum. There's copper-base coolers and all-copper coolers...I find a copper base cooler the best if you're running a pretty normal fan. Aluminum dissipates heat better than copper but doesn't conduct it as much. So you basically have the best of both worlds....
On the other hand if your using a loud Delta fan, it is so powerful it can immediately dissipate the heat and gives you better temps.
That's why you don't see, for example, 47db fans with alumium coolers or 23cfm fans with SK6es.

This would be the route to go if you want low noise and low temps and high OCing :D it uses an 80mm afn and 80mm fans push more air with less noise than 60mm fans...
So just pick out an 80mm fan with that and go.
If that's too much money for you tell me and I'll see what else I can find..
Could you find something as good on NCIX.com. Cause I want to get some ram, and I'll get both at the same time.
Well no wonder your fan is only 18cfm
BTW,just realized you can't get that AX-7 wont' fit on your board :(
Best off just getting a new fan. NCIX doesn't have many fans :(
hey bigfoot, thats where i ordered my heatsink from. Wow 18cfm on a cpu fan  wow
List of Canadian PC part resellers (and some British ones too)Quote:

18cfm on a CPU fan IS pretty weak. Look for anything from 23 to 27cfm should bring your temps down a bit...not anything that low but at least not 47C idle.
with my AX7 i am getting a 36 cfm
Soltek 75DRV-4 is incompatible with the AX7...hence he's kinda locked into the 60mm sinksQuote:

Do you know how loud a 36cfm 60mm fan would be:eek:
ok well i meant an 80 mm fan :p but i am guessing about as loud as a delta :P
Delta's like one of the two manufacturers who make em...:eek:Quote:

not surprised :p i wonder who in thier right mind would want a jet engine on thier CPU :p If you want to get that cool just get watercooling
A lot of people can handle the noise, don't ask me how...Quote:

I think personally if you've got a kickass rig you should be able to use it without scaring the pets away and shouting to talk to your parents. Low temps are good but you've gone too far if it affects your lifestyle.
hey i was just browsing around on amdmb and noticed you made mod congradulations! :p. I leave my computer on at night alot, and seeing how i find it annoying with 1 70mm fan 2 80mm and 1 teeny weeny fan (chipset). I cant imagine trying to sleep with that.
Can I use this? Thermalright SK6 Copper Heatsink
I used to have that one (Actually still do..in the closet :D)Quote:

It's really best for use with a higher CFM fan, but I guess you could get away with a 30cfm fan.
It's an excellent copper cooler, probably one of the best 60mm coolers out there.
I'd really just opt for a 27cfm fan on the heatsink you have now and see how it goes.
thats sounds good where do I get fans without heatsinks?
Thanks :D I've put a lot into that forum and I signed up there as a complete newbie, it's really surprising to be the one offering assistance now...Quote:

This one is pretty good
35dba...not too bad.
And BTW, your hope for an 80mm fan on your CPU isn't over yet, I'm going to check out if you can use the 60 to 80mm adapters on your JMC cooler thing...
Let me find out more about that now...

I could be wrong but is similar?
Noooo!
1) Only works with orbs
2) Orbs suck
3) It's loud
LOL well you can tell I suck at this sort of thing :D
With that 27c fan how much will it drop my temp?
Well I can't say your cooler is the best thing out there but it'd probably be in the low 40s? Just a speculation.Quote:

Also adding more case fans is a good idea too.
Bah I need a mondo mega cool thingy Stat!
Cant I just get a new Heatsink and fan and rip the JMC crap off?
Of course you can...:pQuote:

I just wasn't sure if you wanted to spend much money on it.
What's your budget?
60 bucks tops CND

Will any of these work?
http://www.bigfootcomputers.com/Merc...y_Code=0005.10
That's a decent one. Swiftech MCXC370 is good too but a bit out of your price range.
And get the 38c fan ? With those 2 what expected temps?
No no not 38cfm fan that'll be loudQuote:

Go with the 27cfm fan...
If it is Designed for these applications:
AMD DURON s462/A
AMD Athlon 1.5Ghz+
AMD Palamino MP
Intel P3 1.13Ghz+
Why will AMD XP work?
Palomino = XPQuote:

Using logic rather than ratings, with a 27cfm fan and a copper-base cooler, I don't see why you wouldn't get good temps.
Dude thanks for all your help :)
One thing I like getting stuff frmo ncix its a bit cheaper and good service so far anyway. http://www.ncix.com/canada/productdetail.php?sku=6288 Is this basicly the same? i am not sure the fan is 27c
Yeah but you never know ;)Quote:

I'd just get it from Bigfoot if I were you.
When I take my old H/F off, should I wipe off all the AS3 off the cpu?
Yep. I *think* I used a lint-free cloth and some rubbing alcohol. Don't remember though...
That sounds familliar, probably right.
