Better use an other machine. There“s any Win9x OK! Maybe your old '486 with 75 MHz....
Find a program called boot magic.
In the strictest form of answering your question, just install win98.
You can (under non-bootmagic conditions) install one px based and one nt based OS on the same system.
XP is NT based.
are you saying i can simply install W98 on my XP machine and I will have both ops systems (XP and 98) available? without losing any data?
Yes.
It will add itself to the Boot.ini and the NTLOADER.
MAKE SURE
that you install to a different directory than your current Winnt directory, though (just watch for this, it should do it, but still watch for it)
I dont have a Winnt directory
how do you select which OS to boot from once this is done?
In the beginning, when it comes up and says
Windows XP
Windows XP VGA mode
Press F8 for advanced options
. . . . . . . .
It will also list Windows 98.
If you are really skeptical, just know that even if win98 were to fudge the boot up (which I'm sure it wont), you could use your Win XP recover disk and let it fix the MBR or at worse, re-install Win XP.
Again, though, I have a 98% certainty, which would be 99.9 except for the fact I Upgraded my Win2K installation on the machine configured with only WinXP and 98. (Meaning I did the side-by-side installation while the computer was in Win2K and not XP)
I can still boot either one.
