Ive gone through 4 linksys cards so far:
It seems that every linksys lan card I get doesnt work. If I put it in a computer that has working internet with another linksys of the same model, it doesnt work. There is one card that is not fried. It is no different form other ones I have been using. Why is this?
Can you trying other companies besides linksys?
Correction:
Ive narrowed down that problem to:
Only one computer can have internet at any time. One card is linksys v4.1, the other is v5. Why can this be?
I looked at the event viewer for win2k (the co mputer that doesnt have internet) and there were serveal ewarnings for dhcp all saying that my ip had been changed to 00045A4FF664, or 169.2545.88.79. This was unreachable from pinging from another computer
When Computer #1 boots up and nothing else is on, then computer #1 gets the internet. When computer #2 boots up, it doesnt get the internet regardless of what else is on.
That's the default if it can't connect to the DHCP server.Quote:

what are the specs on the network; dhcp server? Domain or Workgroup? how many nodes?...it sounds like your dhcp server is only assigning an address for one pc. As far as the NIC cards frying, no idea..
Mine now works. Didnt do anything, just booted then up (the opther one first), and mine works

169.2545.88.79 is invalid ip address.
sounds like to me the router is dying 3com makes a good nic.
Oh, in that case...Are you using internet connection sharing. If you are, then the PC that is sharing needs to be on for the other PC to get an address from it. If you are using a router, I would agree with Scoutt that it is a router problem.Quote:

Im going to get another router tonight and see what happens
Got a new router. At first, neither computer had the internet. Waited a bit checking wires and settings, then it suddenly worked. I have the internet now, but the other computer still doesnt. Then additionally, I cant access the router html (192.168.1.1) but the computer that doesnt have the internet can.
