Buggy Excel nonsense ***RESOLVED***

Got a PC here that won't open certain Excel files - gets the error message "File error - Data may have been lost"

Can open the same workbook on other PCs and that PC will open other Excel files :confused:

I'm off to check the Microshaft support site, but I'm guessing I'll find no support, so if anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated. (Office XP btw)

(No time to re-install Excel, will have to provide another PC for user to work on first thing in the morning)

I'm going home now, but will check tomorrow morn. to see if anyones replied (so I don't look ungrateful by not replying today)

Yes.

Run scandisk or Norton Disk Doctor. Do a low-level scan. This happens when sectors become corrupted on a disk.

check service packs


also Excel XP supports a larger number of worksheets etc than
Excel 97. Excel97 crashes with anything over about 50 (ish) Worksheets.

There were 80+ sheets in the workbook.
