Not probably the problem. The whole PCI bus takes up an IRQ IIRC.
Your only way out is the BIOS setup. You should be able to set it up where BIOS would not assign IRQ for the Video automatically.
It wont let me though its blocked out :(
Your problem sounds heat-related to me. Or driver-related.
What are your temperatures like?
Is your video card overclocked at all?
How's your case cooling?
I have Newest 4 in 1 drivers, Ati Drivers, and BIOS.
The Video Card is not overclocked. And there are those 2 fans so I doubt its getting hot. It was not getting hot in my other computer. And it only had the PS fan and the CPU Fan.
Try disabling the NIC (or rather, just remove it :p) and possibly the integrated sound?Quote:

I doubt it's IRQ related but if we can get those out we can narrow down the issue.
I know you're running Windows 2000 ;) ;) ;) but if you were running XP I would note the AC97 audio problems with Windows XP.
I was contimplatd going back to XP, but then I read that my Mobo does not like it at all.
Hmm where'd you read that? I've never heard of a motherboard not liking an OS. Chipsets, yeah, but not boards.Quote:

Anyway I got the new BIOS so it should work :)Quote:
Soltek states that there are issues with this board and that certain revisions may not like WinXP. without upgrading BIOS to current version (K4... which it is, and possibly have to modify the motherboard to make it compatible with WinXP
I would definitely disable your sound and NIC first, then give it a go.Quote:

If it works without sound and NIC, re enable your sound and then your NIC...:)
Its going to be had to test since it seems to be random so i'll give it a try.
PS: how do you network Win98 (might give that a try) and WinXP?
Through what devices? I've networked 98 and XP/2000 before through a Linksys Cable/DSL router. It worked fine, but for the XP/2K computers to access files on the 98/ME computers (or was it the other way around?) was ungodly slow, so I upgraded everything to 2000.Quote:

Well just network as you normally would. But for 98 machines to access shares on XP/2K machines, you'll need to make user accounts on the 2k machines. Example, if the 98 machine is logged in as Bozo, you will need an account named Bozo on the 2k machine..it doesn't work like this the other way around though.
(Well, actually, my mom and dad are running XP, but I'm on 2k.)
Well I just made it through the 3dMark test with sound disabled and it didnt lock up. But that really does not mean much, since I have made it through sometimes and sometimes it froze. If it was the sound. What would u suggest, Buying an actual card?
I'd suggest an actual card even if you had no problems, because AC97 sounds REALLY tinny...:p
But yeah just run with the sound disabled, play a ton of games with it disabled, and if it doesn't freeze up then it's gotta be the sound.
3dMark isn't really a great test for your situation since it doesn't use the sound anyway.
But it froze before in 3dMark, does that mean its not the Sound Card
Perhaps you're right. I don't see how this could happen but I guess it is in your case.Quote:

So just chill and play some games and if it doesn't freeze it's the audio. Just tell me what the results are adn we will work from there.
Well i am getting togethor with some friends tonight. So i'll leave a game on and we I come ack hopfully it will not be frozen and I will pick up...
ONE OF THE BAD BOYS :p
Creative Sound Blaster 16 - PCI
Heh, that sucks even worse than your onboard. :pQuote:

But at least you can narrow down the issue to see what the problem actually is. Just loop 3dMark if you want :)
Have fun ;)
This a better Card?
Creative Labs Sound Blaster 512 PCI Sound Card
Yes it will be better, not exactly like Audigy but better than AC97. ;)Quote:

Arg well its not the Sound Card, it froze, but this time the how monitor went black. I didnt just freeze it turned off the monitor so to speak
Try disabling the NIC..if it's not that, it's the pesky Radeon drivers :(Quote:

Tomorrow I'm going to install XP that might fix the problem :)
Let's hope so. But please try disabling the NIC first. It might not like your board :\Quote:

Yah i'll give that a try tomorrow as well.
umm no. you do not need a profile on the W2K machine so the 98 machine can access it. if it is NTFS it won't anyway. if it is a fat32 then all you need to do is grant permission to the C drive on W2K machine with a password.Quote:

Ok I disabled Nic, still froze. Disabled Sound and Nic still froze. Mabye the ATI drivers dont like 2k i dont know
Times like this I wish I had a Geforce
No you don't want a GeForce, the older ATI Radeon drivers are just silly :pQuote:

What's strange is that my arch-enemy from another site posted the solution that they used.
Hope you can make heads of that. The 8500 drivers are better, but the ATI Radeon, Radeon 7000, and Radeon 7500 all use the same crap drivers because it's the same chip. The 8500 was made from scratch and has far better drivers. :cool:Quote:
The 7000 replaces the Radeon VE. I have the 7000 and had a hell of a time installing drivers. When you install it windows will install the default Radeon VE drivers. What you need to do is locate the dll that corrosponds (sp) to the radeon drivers and delete it. Then let reboot and let windows install the VGA drivers.. Then install the drivers from the CDrom or the updated drivers from ATI's website, which I jsut tried and is down...apparently they are redoing their website cause it looked different last night than when it did a few days ago..
heh unfortunely I Knew about this, and the drivers are installed correcting and are the newest version :(
And it worked in your old machine? Under what OS?
In the BIOS, make sure fast writes are disabled, and side band addressing also if it's there. set AGP to 1x or 2x. Then game continuously.
(Don't get your hopes up too high, some people say it works fine but just takes longer to freeze.)
I'll give that a try
Yah it worked fine on my P3 500 windows 98 and XP
It worked in XP? There goes my theory about Win2000 issues. :(Quote:

I am able to move the IRQ of the Nic should I move it?
Yes, although I doubt that's the problem since you had problems without sound and NIC.Quote:

Well win2k moved the IRQ back  Anyway I set it 3dmark to loop and its going now, I am on my other comp.
Think I should try the ATI beta drivers?
If the loop freezes then try the ATI beta drivers.Quote:

Uninstall your old drivers FIRST.
ATI's driver department is improving, in a year they should be as good as NVIDIA.
it froze using 2X AGP
But! I remebered something, when I first was installing software on my comp I installed Sandra Soft. I did all the tips things. It told me to change my Display from Refresh Rate 60 to 75. So I did. I dont know if that would cause whats going on, but I put it back to 60 and am looping again, and it has not frozen in 40 minutes :)
Strange...well when you are NOT gaming set your refresh back to 75hz, 60hz gets to be an eyesore :oQuote:
