Project Infiniti

Welcome to Infiniti.

Goal: To create a free, open-source, high quality, skinable replacement windows theme. This project could expand to include plug-ins, and skins. It will probably create a whole new developement community, who will make skins, sound themes and plug-ins for the Infiniti shell.

Needed: Several high-quality Visual Basic programmers. A lot of knowledge in Windows API and Shell programming would be very bennificial. Also needed will be several beta tester for version 0.1 when it is released.

Alright, I haven't been getting nearly as many developers as hoped... here's a little more info:

Infiniti Shell

Infiniti is going to be a free, open-source, high quality, replacement Windows shell. The shell is going to be designed to REPLACE explorer.exe. The Infinity project will not only be a full shell, but it will use Plug-ins (Working name) and Skins (Again, working name) to create a fully customizable, user-defined environement. This project would expand to include a whole new developement community making skins, sound themes and plug-ins for the new Infiniti shell.

The project will be divided into several departements, one will be responsible for the core developement, one for skins, one for plug-ins, and one for beta testers. Each departement will have a leader who will report back to the project leader, Jigabug. More departments and, in turn, leaders, will be added as need be. Some departements (Beta testing, for example) won't be needed until later in the project.


Ideas for shell stuff:

Use as little resources as possible
Ram Monitor (Monitors RAM usage, Tries to free RAM when it hits a user set point for a low)
User Accounts (Several User Accounts can be made,Each user can have customized shell settings
Run on System Boot-Up - Needs to be done
LOTS of customization (QuickBar, TaskBar, Clock, ect.)


Ideas for plug-ins:

Media Player (Codec Database) that will accept several formats
FTP Client (Basic FTP Client)
Firewall (Possible?)
User to User messaging? (User could message each other)

I know you do, I have about 4 people right now, but for a project this big, I don't think that will be enough.

In the Menu Editor, add a menu, and a submenu. Set the Index of the submenu to 0. Call the subMenu mnuFiles, and the menu mnuPopup

that won't work for everyone, because win2k doesn't have that same path.

Hey,

A few things, I know there's a way to get the system variable of the programs folder on the start menu (Or the "All Programs" one in XP), I just don't know what it is.

The second thing is that it doesn't show the sub-directories, only the individual shorcuts on the start menu.

Oh, and guys, keep your eyes on the chat post (Above). I'm hoping the chat will be the main place to talk about the project, and I'm in there a lot, updating the post as I leave/join.

Still planning on working on the taskbar stuff, but I felt like doing basic task manager first, very basic, but it's a start ;)

Ok.... Ummm.. I downloaded that and... It didnt work... It loaded alright and everything... Even showed more Items the Ctrl-Alt-Del
but, it wouldnt close my program I made in vb... Or any other thing on my computer...

Hi, ive been thinking of something like this for a while and i wanna join the team, i dont know enough about API but i xan make skins, i can make the plug-in support, i have a way to find the windows directory, and i can help with the site, ubt dont expect me to do hard graphic work cuz I LACK TALENT!
