The checks that John Miles Long wrote for the last two deliveries were $260 for 1 cord of wood and $377.50 for 1 and 1/2 cords of wood. HOw much will it cost to have 2 cords of wood delivered?

Well considering the terrible explanation of the problem, you're lucky anyone answered it right, but here you go:
Justin - you're right for a change...:p
(x = Cost of Cord, y = Cost of Delivery)
#1: x + y = 260 (1 cord of wood = $260)
#2: 3/2 x + y = 377.5 (1 1/2 cords of wood = $377.50)
#2: 3x + 2y = 755 (algebra)
From #1) x = 260 - y
Put that into #2) 3(260 - y) + 2y = 755
:780 - y = 744
y= 25
y = $25
x = 260 - 25
x = $235

Well if you have two eggs, and the recipe asks for 3, obviously you have 2/3 of the requirements, so you need 2/3 of everything else, and in the case of the bread: 2 cups...:rolleyes:

Ok, but to be fair to prog_tom, the question is somewhat unclear... are we supposed to find out how many flans this bloke can whip up with a half-gallon of milk and 12 eggs, AND how many puddings, or what combination of each will result in exactly 1/2 gallon and 12 eggs being used...
Either way it's a stupid answer - this bloke should be out whacking some shrimp on the barby or something - not delving into his missus' Woman's Weekly cookbooks...:rolleyes:

No, I doubt it very much. I believe you are just to assume that the sugar and bread are not part of the issue here, you only need to take into account the milk and eggs...
