What is an Active X control

I am just wondering what is the function of the Active X control

All the controls you use in your VB apps are ActiveX controls. Like the textbox, combobox, commandbutton. They're all ActiveX controls!

um.... actually what is the different with ActiveX controls and Component Object Model controls?
