DirectX 8
Ok, so I downloaded the DX 8.1 SDK. I first looked at the "new features" part and found what I expected, that DirectDraw and Direct3D were merged into one object, the DirectGraphics.
But now it seems to me as if DirectDraw had been completely removed. I mean, I can still use the old functions even with the new SDK, but the is NO DOCUMENTATION! None at all! Am I missing something or how do they want me to draw 2D things with DX8 when they don't document it. I mean, I could of course use the old DX 6.1 documentation, but I would really like a documentation of how DirectDraw should be used now.

Actually, they dont want you to "Blt" anymore. No, instead, they want you to "Draw a Textured Quad" =). You can also do surface locking, and use the CopyRects() function. And of course, you could move back down to DX7.

Ok then, I'll use 6.1, I have that SDK already.

The Zen of Direct3d Game programming teaches 2d (& 3d) with direct3d(DirectX 8.0) you may want to check this book out.
