Which is better? I need to get a handheld computer, and i have heard good and bad things about both. I don't know too much about this area of computers though.

PocketPC certainly looks better
i agree. It seems like pocket pc can do everything palm can and more.. i bet they are more expensive though :(
ok, i just checked it out, they are MUCH more expensive!
Their battery life is really crappy too; Palms can go for weeks and a Pocket PC tends to last for a day.
Yea, but I recharge mine every night.:D
If you want affordable PocketPCs, check out HP Jornada 520 and HP Jornada 525. Both at 149.95, it's the same price of a Palm V, but can a Palm V display color images, watch video, listen to MP3, and take sound captures of your friends saying weird stuff?:D
Filburt, which palm do you have?
for me, battery life is somewhat important, but it probably won't afftet which i get. i am more interested in features. What exactly can your palm do filb?
Palm V; I'm looking into a Clie.Quote:

eisecure: you can get color pictures...my friend does it...he's got jennifer lopez, britney spears, shakira
I have a plam 3e so :p
Fine.
What about color video with sound?
lol well if you want to use up all 2 megs that palm gives you  Im sure you could have a program with about 2 seconds of video :p and if the scene only had beeps for some odd reason :D
heh...that's pitiful.:D
Palm OS is Pocket PC's *****; yes that's right Pocket PC bends over Palm and makes it take it like a slut:D :D
Palm OS lovers try to put up 3 weak arguments:
1) ease of use-- haha, that's the funniest one yet, just click the top right menu to access tasks, contacts, calendars, etc..
2) more compatibility - more and more apps are being developed for PPC
3) battery life-- haha, mine gets 8 horus of straight use (who uses one for 8 hours anyway) and it's full color
Mine is a Casio EM500 and I got it for $199 at Costco
Oh yeah, i forgot to mention, i really can't go over $200.
Justin...Now im interested...tell me more.. :)
I can get a week of constant use, 24/7. Not that I'd want to, but travelers without the docking station could use long batt lives.Quote:

well I might have gotten the special deal :D or rather my parents did (i got it for Christmas) but it's a very nice "organiser" if you want to call it that; I consider it an Mp3 player and a pr0n machine! :pQuote:

It's a lower end model whcih only has 16MB of RAM as opposed to 32 or 64 on the others (Palm only has 2 or 8MB but then again the OS uses less) and it has an MMC slot instead of a CF slot...mine came with a free 32MB MMC card which I use for MP3s, and you-know-what ;) ;)
And it only has PPC2000 and i'm not sure if it's upgradeable to 2002, but the Palms are completely inupgradeable...only the Palm Vx has flash memory and even then OS upgrades are being phased out for Palms. handspring has a way to do it but it takes up your Springboard slot.
Look on pricewatch if you don't have a Costco near you or look at the two Jornadas mentioned above.
I'm not sure if it's really 8 hours, but it's supposed to be pretty decent battery life and it's enough for a day at school, or work, etc as you don't use it every waking moment :D :D
Yeah, well :o
POCKET PCS SUCK
w00t
So if you're a traveler get Palm!:eek:Quote:

If you want to have fun and still have it put in a normal day of work or school get a Pocket PC! :p
And who is really away from a charger for a week..hotels, airplanes, homes, offices..all have AC power!
fine just remember who will be looking at the full picture of that girl in your signature (or something like it) on their Pocket PC which costs much less than a Clie and does much more while you're squinting to see tits on a 2-color screen! :DQuote:

thanks justin. It sounds like pocket PC is the way to go (sorry filburt ;)).
I looked for the EM500 (which sounds REALLY nice esp/ for $199) at pricewatch and the lowest i could find was $219 REFURBISHED! :(. I'll go check out those Jornadas now and see what i can make of them. Any other recomendations that would be comperable to the EM500?
Also, i am still open to suggestions. Any really good reasons to get Palm?
Palm's interface design is very good. Hard to beat. Remarkable what you can do with just a few square inches of screen space and a stylus.
search for the jornada 547...seems cheap on Pricewatch ($220)
what's an extra $20 when you're going to love it :p :p :p
*Ahem*
JPB and I have already been through this
Before you make any decision, check out this thread:
The Best PDA/Pocket PC - Vote!
The answer clearly is: Sony Clie
Dont be trapped and fooled into another Microsoft product!
Save yourself!!!
BTW - Once you get your palm, or palm affiliate, just give me an e-mail if you want to know of any good software or anything.
Later!:D :D
The answer is clearly not sony clit..Quote:

You are just jealous because you bought a Clie and I bought a PPC and I paid less and I can do more.
You're just hung up on MS Products...mine is fast, stable, fun, even overclockable :p
thanks, but thats just outta my price range :(. I'd really like it to be under $200. I'd say $220 is my max.
Attaboy :D it will rule Sony CLIT so don't owrry no matter which one you get..Quote:

Get Jornada 520 or 525. Here's what you get: Full color screen, 16MB RAM/ROM, PPC2000 (unupgradable, but it's still good, since only difference is the patch-through internet connections and the XP-style icons.:D), Type II CompactFlash (I upgraded mine with an additional 64MB RAM).Quote:

The Type II CompactFlash is compatible with IBM's MicroDrive, which has 1GB of removable flash memory. (Beat that, Palm!:D)
WOOT! :pQuote:

Too bad I didn't have one with a CF slot..:( but oh well Palm doesn't have it either and Sony has Memory Sticks so suck on my balls Palm :D :D
i have played with Palms
and i have a pocketpc
i would NEVER buy a palm (almost did)
lots of more options
much more compatibility with windows
(like excel and word)
neer had battery problems yet
i put it on the cradle all the time when i am at my pc
besides its much easier to make your own programs for the pocket pc (love the microsoft for their development strings)
anyone else?
yeah, I've owned 3 types over the last 2 years.
First was a Psion (probably the best, but hey, it's UK and has stopped production)
I bought a Journada after that, and tried to use it daily for 6 months, and by the end of it thought I would be better with a diary and a pen. And this was only last year too.
I use a Palm now for work and play, and I use it every day, hassle free, no problesm, love it.
Why?
Well, what do you want one for? If it for storage of names, addresses, memos, alarms, and a few retro arcade games, plus offline web eradin, get the Palm. It is cheap, quick, stable, clearly read, long battery,a dn (bery important) small & light. It's the sort of thing you use every day.
A pocket PC looks the part, has more gadgets and tools, is very prtty, but how many times are you going to want to watch avis/mpegs ona handheld? mp3? It sucks batteries, it always hung on me, and I had to compromise time, clothing, carry a bag, just to use it daily.
If you want to show off to mates, get the Pocket PC. If you want a practicall, genuinely USEFULL tool, get Palm/Clie/Handspring...
Thanks. Which model Palm do you use?
Correction: is the best :DQuote:

I first had a Psion with an original series 3. It got dropped so many times, but other than I eventually broke the battery cable separately, it works perfectly. Synchronised easily with my computer (not a PC, but hey, this was before I had a PC :p).
The series 5 was probably where they hit the best compromise, the newer Psions like the Series 7 were too big to fit in a jacket pocket. Nice for in your bag though.
I just took my PPC to school. Invaluable little tool/toy. Stored all my homework assignemnts on it, loaded a full color scientific calculator to it, took notes, and listened to MP3s between class.
Oh yeah, and when I got home, the battery level was barely below 100.
I can't think of a better device for $199.
Bog standard Xv. Small light, and overused by me :D.Quote:

Rock solid OS....
Mike, I got the Psion 5mx. It's still working, but I don't use it much unfortunately. I had a Mame spectrum emulator on it, so I could play Elite when travelling home on a Friday night :D
Wish I could have got into it more, but it was just a wee bit to bulky, as you said
Did you ever find a graphing calculator for it?Quote:

I found a couple of them (Demo versions but still) but our teacher requires a specific one.Quote:
