If anyone has a hardrive to spare, install windows (probably winMe or up) then install linux on the same partition (im not sure how thats done) and make a program in linux that looks for a hash in a file you find that isnt found on windows.

I remember reading something about Echelon, but that was a whole while ago, and i thought it still was about matrices until i suddenly realized that was what i had read about. does is really matter anyway? I had a *ahem* demo of XP a while ago. I realised it sucked, so i went back to 2k, whice i own. No FBI agents have been to my door yet. I think they are more concerned with people flying into buildings and anthrax in the mail and stuff.

The government is corrupt, yes, but they still value the privacy of the citizens a little bit. Enough so that M$ doesn't have enough $$ to buy this kind of spyware rights and keep it out of the public eye. Honestly, markman, most of what you said is tripe passed along to you by a conspiracy theorist.

You guys, what markman is talking about is true. I'll post the link for you to get more info on how to view it. It can only be done on an MS OS that can boot to pure dos mode though. AFAIK, it doesn't actually upload this to MS except on newer OSes, but I could be wrong.

I read about this "list" on one of the mod sites I visit. You don't have to have Linux installed, you just need to know the exact filename of the .dat file that contains all the sites you visit. It's filled with jibberish, to the human eye anyway, so it's hard to read. You also need to use Edit in DOS to view it. I am searching for that link right now. I remember finding the link to it on www.virtual-hideout.net so I am searching their News archive right now.

If MS really did have spyware embedded in it's OSes, you don't think the genius level programmers at Norton, McAfee, ZoneLabs, etc., etc., etc. would be just going nuts telling the world about it? Hell, the companies themselves would be informing users of this stuff.

It would not be rumors and innuendo trickling out of obsure little sites.
