As you may or may not have known, our project, entitled Times of War has a GUI Alpha Release that will come out on December 25, 2001.
Here's the official promotion and propaganda thread for Times of War! Remember this isn't the actual game, folks :)

i've been following your posts in the comm. threads and it is quite impressive :)
i would love to test the demo release out, but very few games work on my system (win2k) for some reason :( All new games have failed to work on my system.
I will still give it a shot because it sounds great :D

I've got Windows 2000 Professional and it works on my machine... don't worry. It uses DX 8.1 so get that if you don't have it. In 1 hour, it will be 4 days to release!
Remember don't expect Warcraft III here. Well, expect it in the final release, but right now the units are pyramids and the ground is flat.
But it is very good!

The download is 930K, but if you dont have DX8.1, you have to get that as well.
The development machine was probably the low end of the low. Win2k ~550 mHz, ATI Rage Pro. It should work on anything better (probably not with any 3dfx cards, it uses textures that are greater then 1024x1024).
I will stand no comparison between this and Sentience =).

I've heard good things about the engine you've written Zaei. Did it mostly yourself didn't you? I keep hassling Cam when I see him for a preview but he's very secretive about it all.
So, you reckon my P133, 16mb RAM, 2mb shared graphics card will run it? ;)
I've got a 533 Celeron on Win2k with GeForce2. It ran at 100 FPS.
Arbiter... hmm... all I can say is, time to upgrade :p

Hey Sas, the fire effect is cool but it would look a lot cooler if you used subtractive blend for the smoke ;)
The smoke is part of the system, not a separate system. I just fade the particles from red to white. And my card doesnt support subtractive blending =(.

There's no smoke in that shot. Smoke pSystems will come later. Anyways Zaei's the programmer, it's in C++. Don't you have anything nice to say :p

Yeah, at the moment, the units are just pyramids. I wrote the model loading and display code from scratch, but didnt have the time to write a decent 3ds converter (or proprietary modeller), so I just created the simplest shape I could.
And yes, that system will be in the real game =). Its also in the demo, so you guys will be able to see it in action.

I'm quite looking forward to this now, though I prob won't be able to check in on Christmas Day.
A quick tip would be to ensure that the download contains everything needed to run the game properly.
Many a time have I announced that the latest version of Sentience is ready and omitted a single file that stops the thing working.
If possible try downloading and installing on a clean machine first to check if it works.. ;)
It's only common sense, but it's worth re-iterating. :)
I've already done on my computer, it's full. You'll need DX 8.1 as aforementioned though. Get it off Windows Update or Download.com.
Well guys, it's close. Today, I am going to do some quick checks over everything, and make sure it works. It will be availible on our web site, Crystal Rain at midnight tonight. I will post a news item with the link, and a copy of the readme, for reference, as well.

Go to the RUN menu and type in "DxDiag" (w/o the quotes). It tells you the version.
thanks I have 8.1 but the funny thing or maybe sad thing is when i try to test direct 3d it says it was cancelled by a key press, but i don't press any keys :(
I wouldn't worry about it :) Just worry about it if it happens when you're playing (rather "taking in") ToW! ;)
I hope it doesn't come to that, though :(
