Microsoft has released a fully functionally version of Visual Basic 5.0 that you, or anyone can download and use free of charge or royalty fees. This version of Visual Basic is called the "Control Creation Edition".
Get it here:

This thread is over 6 years old... I don't think they are looking any more ;)
It may be useful for others tho (but if it is, I presume Vb.Net 2005 Express Edition would be more appropriate), so thanks for posting the link.
The download doesn't appear to be available any more. Is there anyone out there willing to share it? Since it was available for free I wouldn't think there'd be any ethical issue.Quote:

If you're just starting with VB? Definitely. Download VB.Net 2005 Express.Quote:

Even if you can get it you'll find that it's limited. Here is one of many links that talk about it.
Martin, thanks. I found it, installed it, and discovered the 1st thing I wanted to do I couldn't, which is to make a DLL. The only Project choices appear to be ActieX Control, Standard EXE, and CtlGroup. The link indicated that it will do everything but create EXE's and work with Database objects, so I would think DLL's would be included, unless DLL's didn't exist in VB5. Am I doing something wrong?Quote:
