I'm getting apprehensive about the Nomad 6GB because of long boot time and low battery life. I'm looking at, at Justin's suggestion, the Archos 6 GB, but I still want an alternative. Any other hard drive based MP3 players?

Never tried it, but you can get a 10, 20GB model, or one with no HDD at all (they use standard notebook drives)
I highly recommend the Archos Jukebox Studio 20.
ARCHOS JUKEBOX 20!!
thats what im gonna get for my birthday, 20GB hard disk, (i know u pry dont need the space, but my laptop only has a 9GB hard disk, so the space will not only be useful for mp3s but for files as well)
other than that, dunno, sorry man
Can anybody find a PDF manual for the Archos 6GB?
oh wait, creative has one, i dunno what its called but it pretty much matches up with the archos jukebox 6000
Yeah, their Nomad Jukebox, but it's not looking good right now...
I read some reviews at http://www.epinions.com/_Archos_Juke...dio_20__616522Quote:

and wondered about some things:
Does it skip at all? my current one skips all the time if i walk, which sux0rs
Can you change the volume trough the remote? I don't want to go trough menus in the lcd to set the volume
How long does the batteries last?
I've got win98 so copying over mp3's is no prob but can i read/play the files from winxp so that i don't have to have them in two places?
It's basically an external HDD with support for playing some files, so it should work no matter what OS you use. I doubt it will skip, God knows I don't excercise. ;)Quote:

well the software doesn't support xp yet, but i'm not sure if that just means copying over the files or if i can't even read the files :/
If regular just walking (not nessesary running) makes it skip after a half minute, then it's crap (which mine is)
1) Yes, it's hard drive based. I run with it occasionally i have to stop every few mins for a couple of seconds.Quote:

2) i dun have the remote
3) 5-6 hours maybe, never taken them for full use
4) yes you can
1. Do you have Windows XP?
3. What's the longest battery life you've ever gotten? And do you recharge the batteries right in the player?
used to have it, worked fineQuote:

never ran it out to the max, but I've heard anywhere from 5-8 hours
Thanks, I have to think about it though, Creative's 30G sounds like an alternative..
I'm using an Emerson MP3 CD player, and it has 5 hr battery life on normal alkaline (the cheap 50 cent stuff) for CDs and 3 hr for MP3s. It may only have whatever the size of your CD is in but it's still pretty good! Photo Lithium batteries live up to 10 hours in MP3 and 20 in CD!
