Another member of the VB World staff just wrote another article at
www.vbworld.iwarp.com/scs.html
about select case structures. Go there and learn about them. Then tell me what you think. Also, check out the VB World at
www.vbworld.iwarp.com
or the VB World Message Board at

Post and Questions there

Was wondering if the article should go into a bit more detail.
Obviously with RPG type games you would need some form of database to be able to store all the people, places, items etc in
First Person Shooter games if done using 3D technology would obviously require the programmers to learn either OpenGL or DirectX (would be good to mention that)
Arcade Games should go into detail regarding the "main loop" sequence that controls the game, the need to reduce both graphic size and resolution to increase speed, possible inclusion of DirectX to allow for joystick support etc
Strategy you might want to let them know includes most of your common board games to which people can quite easily make that their first programming project. Doing a programmatical version of Risk or Monopoly.
I would also have mentioned something about doing a specification of the game first, writing down on paper what the game is about, maybe some screenshots (like a storyboard) and nutting out exactly what would be needed and roughly how big it is.
There is nothing worse than starting a fantastic and marvelous idea only to get 2 months into it and realise that its so huge you will never finish it in time (for hell to freeze over ;-)
Just my 2c :D

Gen-X
My thoughts exactly!!
I find the article very general, and no in-depth information or guidance into programming games. Mostly everything stated was obvious and common sense advice. Infact, Gen-X reply had more helpful advice then boo's article.
Gen-X you should write the article ;)
Boo you are like a straw into the intellectual wind, trying to blow into our brains, but when it is finally dissected, I find nothing but nothing.

Gee...
Wow...
I'm not exactly the champ at this stuff. If you realized I only wrote 2 articles. I was going to take his advice. I don't know about it now that I'm a straw going into your brain (or whatever it is you just said).

I liked it. But in your SCS tutorial, you have 2 section 4s
