vj++ & jbuilder
Hi
I am interested in learning java. What is the difference between microsoft j++ and jbuilder jdk?
If a program is written with vj++. Can this still be compiled with jbuilder etc.
I`m assuming it`s all java??
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks
Kelly

J++ is a sortof fake Java that only MS supports, and like Visual Basic, it is both an IDE and a language, and not free. JBuilder comes in a free version and is pure Java. The paid versions can do JSP and servlets, among other things.
-
What about cross compatiblity? Come on filby. get with the program. :p
-
Java is cross-platform. :p
-
No silly i mean from IDE to IDE like she is asking. ;)
-
i don't think they are cross compatible
-
If J++ was real Java then the code would be 100% compatible between all IDEs.
But J++ was made by MS. :D
-
i tried making a simple swing app in j++ and it didn't work
-
As far as i know J++ is no longer in use. We were supposed to have it in our last class but it was dropped from our school course structure.
-
i think ms stopped with it after they got sued by sun right?
-
I suppose; the Java thing was a big thing for MS.
-
well, instead of them doing the suing, it was nice to see it happen to them for a change!
-
If you think about it though. Micro$oft has been trying to
compete with Java for a long time. Remember the AFC? (Application Foundation Classes) which had two major packages.
UI and FX.
-
sorry, but....what the heck is AFC?
-
{{{laughing}}} see every one thinks of C# and says "hey
Mirco$oft is trying to knock off Java" but they have been trying for longer than most think. AFC was the equivalent to Sun's JFC (Java Foundation Classes) AFC classes are similar to JFC class with the exception of the mechanism being a bit diffrent.
-
oh, i see. so, is afc still in existence? ir did they kill it when .net came around?
-
Im not to sure. I havent really programmed in Visial Basic or Micro$oft anything in a while. With Visual NET comming i dropped Visual Basic for a while to focus on Java. Once VB NET comes out ill get back into it. Ill use the wizard that comes with VB NET to change all of my older programs over.
-
cool, well, thanks for all the info then.
-
If you happen to find out. Post. You seem to post in the C++ fourm alot. :)

What? weather or not Application Foundation Classes are still in use? If i find out, i will.. :)
