Is anyone in here from Crawley in Sussex? I left there as a lad about 35 years ago- have been back a couple of times but not since the late 80's. Just wondered how the old place was doing?
I was born in Langley Green, later lived in Northgate. My Dad worked for Redifon (now Rediffusion Simulation) in Manor Royal who to this day are leaders in making flight simulators (real ones), and I went to "Our Lady Queen of Heaven" school.
Or anyone from thereabouts???

hmm...crawley has been done up quite a bit I guess, I don't know if your were around there when they had the dual-carriageways running right through the middle of it...if you were, they were just recently rebuilt in some sections and they've build on waste land just off the main road. Crawey itself has been beatuified I think, new pavements, signs etc just to make it look better. No massive expansions or anything.
Mind you it is a "New Town", 1948 or so I think so it ought not to be too shabby.
Why do you go thru Langley Green on your way on holiday?

Yeah its quicker to go through Langley Green to get to the BCP car park (one we usually use) just south of the main runway rather than along the main road

We go to the new shopping centre at Crawley fairly often - just the same as any shopping centre actually, but probably the most convenient for us.
Also Bowling and the cinema in a newish complex - I'd have to look at a map to mention any road names though.

Apart from that, all I know of Crawley is Tillgate Park. They've got a few animals there that my kids like to go and gawp at.
Oh, and the rest of Crawley is covered in concrete.

My parents used to drive me and my friend over from Dorking every Saturday morning for about a year.
I do remember that at one time Dr Zhivago was showing at a cinema near the baths (well we went past the cinema on the way there). I just looked up on the web and the film came out in 1965 so maybe the pool was new and thats why we started going there - most of the pools round our way were open air and the water was cold.
