Sending mail without using Exchange?

Is there any way to send mail without using Microsoft Exchange?

there is a way:

connect with winsock to the smtp server.
if you want to know more about smtp and how it works, read the RFC-821 (ftp://ftp.denic.de/pub/rfc/rfc0821.txt)
