I'm a newbie and would grately appriciate any advice on improving my site.

well, it looks good, but the blinking image is a little annoying. plus you can see the outline of the image. should make it transparent.

:D it is very good but not really my style so i'd probably never use it.
I'd change the link list from a combobox to something using dhtml or whatever, i think it looks more professional. Aprt from that it's great.
