Installation
------------

No installation required. Simply unzip to anywhere on your hard drive
and double-click exe to run. (You may want to create a shortcut.)

For ease of uninstall, unzip to somewhere under My Documents. Will work
fine under Program Files, but will be slightly trickier to uninstall.

Uninstall
---------

If installed anywhere under My Documents, simply delete the program folder.
(Wherever you unzipped it.)

If installed under Program Files, in addition to deleting the program
folder you'll want to delete the settings files. These are found in the
following folder:

\Documents & Settings\User\Application Data\Ellisoft

The entire Ellisoft folder can be deleted. (Settings are saved in the
program folder if possible. Because "Program Files" is a protected
area, if you install the program there the settings must be saved
elsewhere.)

Making Moves
------------

There are two ways to make moves:

1) Click a piece on the board to select it, then click the square where
   you want to move it.

2) Click a move in the move list on the bottom right of the screen.

Importing Games
---------------

You can import both PGN (Portable Game Notation) games, which contain
an entire move history for a game, and FEN (ForsythEdwards Notation)
positions, which contain a snapshot of a chess board but no information
about the moves that brought it to that point.

Click either the "PGN" or "FEN" links in the bottom right of the screen,
paste the appropriate text and then click the Apply link.

To get PGN and FEN game data from RedHotPawn, click the "Info" link along
the right side of the screen for any game, active or completed. Scroll
down the little window that pops up and click the "Get PGN/FEN" link.

Save / Revert
-------------

For correspondence chess, it could be several weeks before you progress
beyond the opening stage. Instead of having to recreate the game for every
move, save the current position by clicking Save. Now you can try out
various openings without having to keep clicking the Back button to get
back to the current position. Just click Revert to restore the game to
where you last saved it.

The program will automatically revert to the saved position on startup.

To clear the saved game, click New Game and then Save.

ECO.PGN
-------

PGN files are pure text and can be read in notepad. The ECO.PGN file
included contains the complete move history from the Encyclopedia of
Chess Openings. The first time you run the program, this PGN file will
be processed into a more efficient format and saved alongside your
settings. This processing will only happen once.

If you want to find openings that include a particular move, for example
a Kingside castle, open ECO.PGN in notepad and do a search on the move.
(eg: "O-O")
