Can't install IIS7 and ASP.NET 3.5 on Win7 64-bit
Using Win7 32-bit for 3months and didn't have problem with developing any .NET-based applications including ASP.NET apps.
Just upgraded my laptop's RAM 3days ago and switched to 64-bit version of Win7.
When I'm working on installing IIS7 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, there's an error about not all features were installed for some unknown reason.
When I try to register ASP.NET through aspnet_regiis -ir in c:\Windows\Microsft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\, a dialog box shows with this error message: "Operation failed with 0x80070643" and after I close the dialog box, another error message on the console command shows with this message: "An error has occurred: 0x80004005 Unspecified error".
Thanks for the help.

Hey,
Was this a clean install of the 64 Bit Edition?
There is mention of the error code that you are seeing here:

Hopefully this will help!

Re: Can't install IIS7 and ASP.NET 3.5 on Win7 64-bit
Thanks, I'll try those.
This is a full-clean installation of Win7 64-bit.
I already updated it with the latest security updates/patches.
Another dismay with this edition is I can't change the 'program files' location unlike its 32-bit counter part.

Re: Can't install IIS7 and ASP.NET 3.5 on Win7 64-bit
Thanks. It is a clean installation of Win7 64-bit.
I'm not installing MS Visual Studio 2008, just installing the .NET Framework 3.5 with SP1.
I already have an MSVS2010 installed and no issue with registering ASP.NET 4.0 on IIS7.
I've tried to disable UAC but having the same problem/issue on installing WPA.
Most of the features that are related to .NET Framework can't be installed.

Re: Can't install IIS7 and ASP.NET 3.5 on Win7 64-bit
Hmmm, that is interesting.
On my development machine here I have .Net 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 installed, along with VS 2008 and VS2010, so I know for a fact that you can have everything installed at once.
It could be an issue with the order of installation, but I really couldn't speak about how or why that would be.

Re: Can't install IIS7 and ASP.NET 3.5 on Win7 64-bit
The order of the installation should not be an issue 'coz you can register ASP.NET on IIS if ever the installation of .NET Framework came last.
On the 32-bit edition, I have installed 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 without any problem.
This is really weird, 'coz I'm just installing all of these tools through the Windows Features.
I already tried the same installer of .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 I've used with my previous installation of Win7 32-bit.

Re: Can't install IIS7 and ASP.NET 3.5 on Win7 64-bit
I agree that the order of installation "shouldn't" make a difference, but I have seen issues when it has.
What about doing a Microsoft Update to ensure that all relevant patches and updates have been installed?

Re: Can't install IIS7 and ASP.NET 3.5 on Win7 64-bit
Just updated it this few hours ago with several security updates.
I've found several patches applied related to MS Office but there is no MS Office installed on my machine, I'm just using OpenOffice. It is really funny that they've applied patch for something that is not existing.

Re: Can't install IIS7 and ASP.NET 3.5 on Win7 64-bit
That particular one depends though. For instance, Visual Studio will have some office components shipped with it in order to allow Office Application development. These patches may well be something to do with that.
Unfortunately, I am out of suggestions about how to proceed, short of re-installing everything from scratch, but that would be a big step.

It seems I'm having other problems regarding the .NET Framework 3.5 with SP1; I can't install libraries through too.

Hmmm, can you clarify what you mean by:

Oh, I was going to mention this earlier but I forgot...
You might want to give this a try:
http://www.microsoft.com/web/downloads/platform.aspx
Basically, it can be used to set up your machine as a Development Machine, including pulling down all dependencies and configuring the various components. It might be worth a shot.

Sorry, I've forgot to insert the word "gacutil.exe".
I can't install libraries on GAC.
Anyway, just re-installed my Win7 x64; stopped updates, installed drivers then IIS with .NET 3.5 with SP1 through "Turn Windows Features On or Off". Then installed MSVS 2010 and PostgreSQL 8.4.
Now, everything is fine.

Hmmm...
Very strange!!
Glad to hear that you got it all working though, it is a shame that you had to go to that extreme though.

Re: Can't install IIS7 and ASP.NET 3.5 on Win7 64-bit
Yeah! I need to re-install Starcraft2 with its updates and re-download my Steam games; it will take a week before I can finish them. But it is fine, I can now continue to work with my projects.
Lots of dev tools I need to install. Maybe I'll be finish next week to fully set-up my machine.
Thanks!

Re: Can't install IIS7 and ASP.NET 3.5 on Win7 64-bit
You might want to think about setting up a development VM (Virtual Machine). That way you can keep the development platform separate from your gaming one, and if something goes wrong in one, you can just delete it, without deleting the other.
