Can you install IIS 6.0 on Windows XP?

I am running the professional version of windows xp.

I have IIS 5.1. I downloaded the IIS 6.0 migration tool, but the tool tells me that it can only run on a windows 2003 server and above.

Is there something you know and I don't?

    I don't think you can. See http://www.iisanswers.com/IISFAQ.htm

the migration tool upgrades from IIS 5 to 6... and the TOOL only runs on Server... but you can run IIS6 on XP ... I do. At least I assume it's IIS6 ... I know I've got IIS running on it, but now that I think about it, I'm assuming it's IIS6. it came to me this way.

Even IIS 6 leaves you a bit behind the curve. Vista had IIS 7 and IIS 7.5 launched with Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2.

I doubt there was ever any update for XP that included IIS 6. It gets harder every day to keep up with a 9 year old OS. IIS is normally pretty closely coupled to the Windows version it shipped on.

IIS6 runs on XP, however IIS7 and newer runs on Vista and up (I dont think IIS7 runs on server 2003 either)

I hear IIS8 will work on Win7 and Server 2008 RC2 and newer, so Vista wont even run it.
Currently using VS 2015 Enterprise on Win10 Enterprise x64.

That could arguably be one of the reasons why it cannot be upgraded...

So it won't run on XP. I was able to install the manager for II6.00, but the web server installation continues to daunt me. They won't upgrade until July 2010. So in the meanwhile I am stuck with XP and IIS 5.1

Given how old XP is, I wouldn't really worry about it too much...
