Visual Studio 2005 Express - The End
I was reading today that they are pulling it off the shelf...
What does that actually mean?
Will i still be able to open the 2005 interface?
I know i should be using 2008 but as i am just starting off in my uneducated programming lifespan i have found that the 2008 framework took up to one hour or more to install on some of my clients old systems.
That just deterred them from using my application.

I think it will not just be available for further downloads, if you already have them then no need to worry.

Hey,
I hadn't heard that they were pulling it, where did you read that?
I would suspect, like dee-u, that all this would mean is that they will be removing it from the download site, in favour of 2008. However, if you have the download media on your computer, then you should still be able to install and use it.

Its in the Developer news when you open 2005 Express.
There no information if you click on the link it just seems that there is no longer a link to download older versions.

Ok, so they are discontinuing the download. That means nothing if you already have it downloaded.
Is the installation of the 3.5 framework significantly slower than the 2.0 framework? That surprises me a bit, but I certainly haven't compared them.
By the way, if you download 2008 you can target the 2.0 framework, just as you do with 2005.

Hey,
In my experience, I didn't notice that installing 3.5 took all that long.
To clarify what Shaggy said, once 2008 is installed you can target the 2.0 Frameworks in your applications, but .Net 3.5 is a requirement for the installation so you will always have to install it to use 2008.
