Imagine a contest in which you have to stand on your hands. Your feet are resting against a wall or some support so you do not have to worry about balancing in the upside down position. It is just a matter of how long you can support your weight on your hands.

Suppose ten people were in this contest. Imagine that the last one still on his hands gets a million dollars. Or imagine that the first nine to give up get executed.

In such a contest, how long do you think the winner might last? How soon would the first loser take to give up?

My guess is that a lean wiry-built person (like me 100 years ago) could stand on his hands for an hour or two. If somebody told me at most 5 minutes or easily 24 hours, I would not feel knowledgeable enough to argue, so I have no confidence in my own guess.

Do any of you know a gymnast type who might have a really good answer?

If I were not overweight, I would experiment a bit.

I checked the Guiness Book of records and did not find anything. The closest entry was about somebody who walked an incredible distance on his hands. He walked on his hands 10 hours per day for a lot of days. It did not say he walked for ten hours without letup. He might have walked for ten minutes or an hour, took a rest and started again.

It's an interesting question. I do think it would be variable depending on the weight and physical conditioning of the individual.

My daughter in very thin. but is in good condition since she does ballet...she has very strong legs and abdominal strength...however not as much upper body strength.

My son is heavy and not in as good condition. His arms are still stronger than my daughters.

Which one should be able to stand on their hands longer?

For a long time, all they need is to be eating energy bars so that they're hands don't get tired........

The Aztec empire had foot runners deliver messages throughout the empire, sometimes they had to run for 3 full days, but back in the time they didn't have energy bars, so they chewed on cocain or some other drug that gives you enery (and is now illigal)
