I am looking to get into programming and I was thinking of getting a MCSD certification to get my foot in the door. I recently did a 2 month project for a small software company, but it doesn't seem to be enough to get a entry level position.
Do you think a MCSD would help me out?

MCSD certification would certainly help, however, it is also very difficult to get. Because unless you already know your stuff extremely well(ie. you can set up a network in your sleep) then you will need to study very hard. However, there are places to help you with that, too. But, just know that it's a very difficult set of exams. The same for MCSD(Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer), which is the programmer's certification.

I've taken and passed Exam 70-176 Desktop Apps Using MS VB 6.0. I went and bought the training kit from Microsoft and also bought a 300 question sample test from self-test software. These two tools, combined with work experience, really helped. The books from MS usually get poor or average ratings on Amazon.com but I found it to be very good. The sample exam was well worth the $70.
Hope this helps,
