    Question

if a guy knows nothing about me, except for my aol screen name, can he find out my ip address useing unix? can a guy creat a program to over clock my cpu with out haveing to pull any jumpers on my mother board or anything? And if a guy were to do that, could it not be erased if i turned off my computer and pulled the batery on the mother board? Could that batery be disabled also useing a program? Some body on aim treatened me with this, and he was dumb enough to give me his ip address. Any ideas or sudgestions on what to do, or defend myself?

first of all that was not an ASM question. second of all, if it was it should have been in the ASM FORUM!

First off, I don't think it is possible to do this through a program. Second, this guy that threatened you probably doesn't know ***t about programming anyway. So don't worry about it.

Well, he could get your ip address (especially since you were on aim). 2nd, overclocking depends on the motherboard, Some is jumper only. abit and asus have motherboards that can be changed with software, but it is a bios setting and can't be changed any other way. 3rd, if it could and you were overclocked too much, your computer would crash due to lost data on the bus before anything else happened. 4th, all he could change would be bus speed since all new chips are multiplier locked.
