Exclamation Apache+PHP and 100% CPU Usage

I've been trying to pinpoint the cause of a spike of CPU to 100%.

    The Production Server is HPDL380 G4, Xeon 3.8Ghz (x2) CPU, 2GB Memory, 146 GBx2 (Mirror) HDD.

OS: Linux Red Hat ES 4.0
    Apache2.0.55 and PHP5.2.0 and MySQL.

We are thinking that the HTTP+PHP is eating a lot of resources. At one point it went up to 100%.

    Has anybody encountered this problem?

    Please help.

I don't know but, these might help:

    1. Find out the specific process that is eating up all the resources using the ps command in a terminal in Linux. You can narrow it down from there possibly.

    2. Why does your production server have less RAM than my development box or even my laptop at home?

On Memory: Because it is a very small application. Besides I was not the one that recommended this.

On Process: The specific process eating it up is probably apache (httpd)
we tested UAT environment with Apache and PHP, and httpd would top the process... with the use of the top command.

On Memory: Not a valid reason.

What ever happened with this anyways?

Re: Apache+PHP and 100% CPU Usage

Got stuck with RED TAPE of this company.

I had requested for logs and configuration files from the load balancer, the primary server and the backup server.

the one that showed the alert was the primary server.

but on the safe side, it is best to get all of them since there are other accompanying problems...

in fact, i still have not acquired the logs for the load balancer. :|
