This is good for all to read,as I hope it doesnt happen to them, no one has to reply
Thank you to all the kind people who are trying to help me, in response to my request for help in learning VB6. Someone from here, had requested to be on my msn in response to my first post, I added them, thinking they would help me, could name them, but wont. I wrote one email and one offline, as when I asked them if they were replying to my request for help, they said they werent sure, as they requested to be added in answer to 2 requests, one to learn and one problem, so I wrote, saying that I was the one who wanted to learn, and I never heard from them again. I dont think much at all of someone like that, the decent thing to have done was not ask to be added at all if they had no intention to help, as I am serious in learning this .From what I have seen here, I'm very impressed at the character of the people to help and answer any questions someone has.
The moral of this post is, I hope the person who did this to me, will see this and not do it to anyone else. People need to help each other as much as possible, this world is in a bad enough state as it is.

Maybe he had good intentions but work or other responsibilities got in the way... that's the way it is with free time.

If you don't help yourself, then who can help you?
Go and buy some books and learn from there.

If your new to programming all together, I would recommend the book VB6 for dummies. It teaches a lot relatively quickly.

leinad31- I know what you are saying, the bottom line is though, a person with any integrity, would have thought about if they had the time or not, and not asked to be added at all, Thanks for your reply
Dark Byte- you are correct in a way, but, there is a time for learning on your own and a time not to
Hack- sorry I posted in the wrong forum
Chees- Thanks, I will look into that, isnt there also a visual series of prog books ? I dont know if they are on par with the dummies books or not.
Thanks all of you for your replies

You have to remember that this isn't a forum exclusively for professionals. Many of us are amateurs and/or hobbyists; and there are also many children. That's how the internet is; you just have to take things like this in your stride.
Generally, you'll get a wider variety of responses, and ultimately a better solution, if you pose questions publicly on the forums rather than privately; since you're not restricting responses to one person. Unless it's me, in which case you'll get the best answer every time.

Except for this time
Actually, I agree with all you had said before, but there are a few further ways to weed out responses. If you look at those green gems, which have only been around for a year or two, and you look at the post count, and longevity, then you can come to these conclusions:
1) A low post count in a short time means somebody new to the forums, but could be quite experienced.
2) A low post count in a loooong time means somebody who isn't here all that regularly.
3) A large number of gems, especially with a high post count and a short longevity, means somebody who has provided so much help to others that they can probably be trusted to help you. (Note that Pena beats me pretty handily in both gems and post count, though not in longevity).
Basically, it takes time to get gems, but you don't get them from just hanging around, so they are a fair measure. The other two can also be considered.

The people's efforts and times here are a privilege, not a right. The chaotic nature of the Internet is something that one must always take into account, promises made or not. And that goes for green gems and post counts as well. Anything could happen.

Anything can happen, but not all results are equally likely. You just play the odds as best you can.

penagate- yes i agree, i hold to high standards of integrity though, and wouldnt have done that to anyone, i would have at least answered them back in the best way i could. No one is perfect, but there are rules that we can all go by to be nice to each other. Kudos for you, that you endeavor to give the best answers. "the worst things in life are free", how true and sad that is
Shaggy Hiker- Thanks for that input also, i hadnt thought of that in depth as you brought it out, its true, as i did say from the beginning on and as a reply to penagate, all that guy had to do was just answer me.
mendhak and Shaggy Hiker- I agree with both of you also, there are many variables involved here.
Update- it turned out this guy thought i was someone that he hated, so he wouldnt reply, as he pm me, and he put a reply on my posting for request for help in VB tutoring, so it seems to me that was due to a little bit of guilt, from me writing the original posting here.
The whole thing is, all he had to do was either, never ask to be put on my msn at all then, or at least give me a conclusive answer thats all i asked for.
The chaotic nature of most human beings unfortunately creates many variables in their behavior, but there is no excuse for being rude in the way he did to me. I dont even know him.
Thanks All Of You For All Of Your Input, and Thanks For Understanding
