[RESOLVED] Windows 98 Logon problem
I got a bunch of computers from a local school at an auction, and I chose the best one to add to my home network and such.
Its a NEC, Pentium III 866MHz, 6gig HDD, 256mb RAM, Windows 98 machine. I wa playing around with it, getting all the old School-related stuff off, and such. Then I wanted to get it set up to connect to my router, so I tried to add a new network adapter. (Note: This is the first time I've ever done this. I understand the theories, but my implementation may be wrong.)
After I did that last night and shut it down, I tried to reboot this morning and it stops me at the logon screen. I had a user name and password that worked before, but now it doesn't, plus there's now a "Domain" field that wasn't there before.
One of the things I did in my tweaking was change the Computer's name, because it was still named "Chem Lab 1" or something.
I've tried to get into safemode so I can edit the users or something, but F8 doesn't so anything, it just continues on to Windows...
Any ideas?

A suggestion: reformat and load XP Pro.

Re: Windows 98 Logon problem
I don't have XP Pro, just Home. I did think of doing that anyway, but I wasn't sure how it'd run on such an old machine.
I've also got a Windows 98 Disc, but I also wanted to know this: Is it going to be a pain to get a Win 98 computer to network with my Win XP Home computer? I'd much rather leave Win 98 on this computer, but if it's gonna be a big problem, I could be swayed. (I'm a gaming geek, so I want to play all my old classic games on Win 98 )

It has been a long time since I had Win98, but I believe it can be networked fairly easily (at least more easily than ole Win95 could be).
If you want to retain Win98, then I'd just reformat the whole thing an reload that rather than mess around trying to get the existing Win98 installation to work for you. Lord knows what kind of settings the school had on there, or even worse, what kind of system profiles may be in effect.
