    Router

    Hi mate!

    I'm about to replace my defective router at home, I currently own a Linksys WRT54G, it is my second router , since the first one jam when I was upgrading is firmware, and the second is also a bit crapy, when it time to foward port.

    Anyone have a good Router suggestion, for home usage?
    I need VPN, port Forwarding, and FireWall, and at least 4 RJ45 ports

    Well everyone says to steer clear of D-Link.. as a D-Link user, I'd be inclined to agree with them (first router just stopped working one day, the second one can behave oddly)

    Netgear is a sollid router, the only time one of those stopped working for me was...
    When i accidently plugged in the wrong adapter for it and it fried...

    I would make a smoothwall box if i were you, you take an old machine put 4-6 pci network cards in it... and then use the smoothwall software to customize port forwarding, firewall options... and since it is based off of unix it is fully functional...
    You can upgrade multiple features or even install more plugins(multi firewalls and other functions)...it has near endless possibilities...

    And the sys reqs are low, so a box out of your closet would work.

    I have installed 3 D-Link's, and have one myself. I haven't had any trouble with it, and owned it for about 6 months. (I bought it from a client that had bought two of them). A majority of the routers that I've installed have been LinkSys, and that's the one that I recommend. Another popular brand that works well is the Belkin (they have one with a built in print server that is real nice)

    I think that my LinkSys have stop working properly becose I've upgrade is firmware to many time.

    A PrintServer isn't a critera for me.
    But is the D-Link or Netgear allow VPN?

    I don't think I will go width a whole PC to Handle the FireWall/Internet Dispatch, I perfer to keep a low tech Infrastructure. to keep a low maintenance but thanks for the info!
