    Read the Hoobbit first.

There really are 4 Ring Books. The Hobbit is an introduction to the adventures and sets the tone. You get to know Gandolf & the Hobbits better from the first book.

The Dinosaur from prehistoric era prior to computers.

on a lighter note if you like humorous fantasy, I highly recomend the discworld novel's by Terry Pratchet as they are bloody hilarious. I just love the way he brings modern day thing into a fantasy medieval city. Death is my favorite character followed by the city watch

My favourite Discworld analogy : (from The Colour of Magic)

It's like standing on the top of the highest mountain in the middle of a thunder storm, wearing wet copper armour and shouting "ALL GODS ARE BASTARDS!"

    Tolkien kicks arse!
    Gentile or Jew,
O you who turn the wheel and look to windward,
Consider Phlebas, who was once handsome and tall as you...
