Why is it that people feel compelled to list every piece of software they've ever layed eyes upon in their signatures? I've seen lists of HTML, SQL, ADO, DAO, why don't people add 'tying my shoelaces' and 'brushing my own hair' (if I had any) too?

I know exactly what you mean Harry. Still, if they have something to prove, let them try.
Seeing as I am on a Software Engineering degree I could probably fill a screen with useless acronyms that no one understands, and I have no doubt that a lot of other members could as well. That’s why we go to University anyway isn’t it? So we learn some degree level bullshit that no one else understands, let alone cares about.
Iain, thats with an i by the way!

I think its cute.
For years I put the silly things on my prospectus until a prospective client asked me what APL was, and then decided I couldn't be trusted on the project because I ".....was too flippant about a serious question"
APL = A Programming Language

APL
DerFarm, wasn't APL a mainframe language? It seems to me that there was a compiler with those initials.

There is an APL
DerFarm, I thought so! Just did search using "APL and language" --- Got some hits. Check the following site. http://www.apl.demon.co.uk/aplandj/japl.html

Of course there was an APL. Originally, it was interpreted
language. There is now a compiled version. It was a
speciality, matrix/vector language. Lots of weird
symbols. You could write a complete logistic regression on
one line.
We used to have contests to see who could write the densest
code. Jack Coburn won. He did a multi-variariate anova in
106 symbols. One line. No documentation.
Weirdness. And APL DID stand for A Programming Language.

Are TLAs totally lame acronyms or something like that?

Yeap your right Harry....hehehehehehehehehe
The origins of this go back into the dark days of this bulletin board, when Mrs Le Pont was unheard of, Batman was a comic book character, and l had another alias.
Sam l think asked people to indicate which version of vb they were using, so people started to include it, and then include other languages, and then include anything they have ever heard off.
I only include my current languages, so have left off C/C++, Delphi, dbase v, PL1, etc etc etc.
But l do find it a laugh when people include vb5, DAO, ADO etc etc.
hmmm....maybe they should also include any ocx they have run up against.

Monday Morning Lunatic
There's an idea...
TLAs = Three Letter Acronyms (the bane of computing)
I was trying to see how long I could get my list without being seriously stupid . I just mentioned the major software packages - DAO is pretty major .
I refuse to tie my hands behind my back and hear somebody say "Bend Over, Boy, Because You Have It Coming To You".
